Tourist Attractions in Fresno

  • Chaffee Zoo: This zoo has an extensive history dating back to the early 1900s, since when it has greatly expanded to include over a hundred different species of animals, including quite a few that are endangered or protected. At the zoo you can see all of these animals, which include elephants, alligators, warthogs, giraffes, orangutans, and many more.
  • Duncan Water Gardens: These hidden gardens, owned by the Duncan family, include 53 cherry trees that bloom in March, as well as a koi fish lake, a waterfall, and sculptures by local artists.
  • Forestiere Underground Gardens: The name of this unique attraction may be slightly misleading - the underground gardens include more than just beautiful landscaping. The multiple acres of underground catacombs and arches were also the home of Baldassare Forestiere. Baldassare came to America with the dream of creating a citrus empire, but found that the land he purchased was unsuitable for planting. His underground home began as a simple room to escape the heat, and grew to include many trees which could grow successfully out of the extreme heat and frost, given skylights to bring in the sunlight. Today, the Forestiere family maintains his underground paradise and has opened it for tourists to visit and enjoy.
  • Kings River Expeditions: Include a whitewater rafting trip on the Kings River in your vacation plans and you won't be bored! You can choose either to camp in the area and explore yourself, or book a guided one or two day expedition with experienced guides.
  • Yosemite National Park: Regardless of what time of year you visit, Yosemite holds many beautiful views and landscapes. In the summer, the entire park is accessible, but many of the waterfalls have decreased flow or are completely dry. Later in the fall and into the winter, some areas of the park may be inaccessible due to snow, and the views include snowy trees and mountains. The peak season for Yosemite's waterfalls is in the spring, typically during April and May, when the snow begins to melt and feeds the rivers. When planning your RV trip to Yosemite, make sure to check what the weather conditions will be ahead of time - sometimes even in spring tire chains are still required! For more information, check out the resources on the Yosemite National Park website or Yosemite Park Activities.
